In October 2024, the Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act introduced a new proactive duty on employers to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. This marks a fundamental shift – from reactive compliance to proactive prevention.
From October 2026, the duty strengthens further. Employers will be required to take all reasonable steps – and for the first time, liability extends to harassment by third parties including customers, clients, and contractors.
